What is the Contact Play? (Giants Series Recap, 5/9-5/11)

5/11/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins win their 8th straight game sweeping the three-game set against the San Francisco Giants at Target Field. The guys break down the unexpected deep start from Chris Paddack, and dive further into the Louis Varland "Hulk" hype video. David is still upset every time he has to figure out how to watch the Twins, and Dan further refines his grading rubric. David wants to know if the recent surge for the team changes what they should do come the trade deadline, and Dan wants to see Carson McCusker at the big league level sooner rather than later. The boys discuss Royce Lewis' first hit of the season, and David toys with the idea of putting Vazquez as his beast. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins! A Visible Out-of-Body Experience (Orioles Series Recap, 5/6-5/8)

5/9/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins stayed hot at home, sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in convincing fashion across three games at Target Field. David and Dan discuss the many thrilling moments, which included a pair of three-run homeruns by Byron Buxton, a big blast from Carlos Correa, a significant workload from the bullpen and a memorable hit from Brooks Lee, to name just a few. Despite the long homer, David isn't so sure Correa is actually healthy and wonders whether he should go to the IL for a short stint. Dan is curious about just how good Jhoan Duran will end up being this season after this excellent opening six weeks. They also wonder: Was Louis Varland's shovel pass to first base just the lesson the Twins pitchers needed? And why is he being compared to The Hulk? Thanks for listening, and go Twins! Keeping the Romance Going with Kody (Red Sox Series Recap, 5/2-5/4)

5/5/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins take 2 of 3 from the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The boys are thrilled that the Twins managed to win two games against a good baseball team, and in such dramatic fashion. Dan has high praise for Jhoan Duran while David has some harsh words for Carlos Correa. The guys have nothing but good things to say about Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober, and David wants to know if these guys will be Twins for the long haul. Dan changes his tune on Kody Clemens, and David wants Rocco to tweak the rules for runners on contact plays. The guys discuss the recent Athletic article explaining the changes to the umpire "buffer zone," and finish up by making their picks for the Baltimore Orioles series. A Progressive Field Christmas (Guardians Series Recap, 4/28-5/1)

5/2/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins' latest visit to Cleveland goes about as well as they seem to: not well. The Twins win the first and then lose the next three in close fashion, dropping farther under .500 -- which is all still part of David's grand vision for their return to a winning record by mid-summer. David's optimism, though, is limited after seeing the bats go cold and the pitchers prove unable to get the ball to first base in key moments. Dan is not so sure Ryan Jeffers has truly turned a corner, but he is quite sure that a healthy Willi Castro would make a difference right now, considering Rocco Baldelli's bench options. David thinks the Twins should just bring Royce Lewis back now, even if he's just cheering from the bench until he's fully ready to return. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! You Always Want More Runs (Angels Series Recap, 4/25-4/27)

4/28/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins complete their first sweep of 2025 taking three straight from the Los Angeles Angels at Target Field. The Twins were flying high with the return of Pablo Lopez to the roster and Royce Lewis starting a rehab assignment at AAA. While spirits were high there was some sadness as the Twins breakout prospect Luke Keaschall suffered a fractured forearm after being HBP in game 1. Dan praises Rocco's bullpen management and wonders if the Twins may try and move a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. David wants to know if Rocco will continue letting lefty batters see lefty pitchers once he has a full bench, and also wants to know what the reasonable expectations should be for Royce upon his return to the roster. The guys finish up discussing a new ump relegation idea, and make their picks for the upcoming 4-game set against the Cleveland Guardians. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins! The Sixth Tool (White Sox Series Recap, 4/22-4/24)

4/25/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins win a series for the third time in eight opportunities, handling the Chicago White Sox in two of three at Target Field. David and Dan are pleased with the series win and some of the positive signs, most notably the play of rookie Luke Keaschall, whose flowing golden locks definitely make him a better player (or at least more fun to watch steal bases). Dan does his best to defend the idea of keeping Rocco Baldelli on as manager for not just this year but for a long time beyond. David has a path for the Twins to get back to .500 by the All-Star Break in July. And they've both got some empathy for Rocco who has turned so often lately to an empty bench. The Golden Inning (Braves Series Recap, 4/18-4/20)

4/21/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins are swept in a three game series against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. The boys breakdown all of the missed chances throughout the series, along some questionable decisions from the manager, Rocco Baldelli. The guys discover a potential new rule to present to Rob Manfred, and walk through the numerous roster moves made by the Twins in the last few days. David wonders if it's time to let Rocco go, and Dan wants to know why it's taken Rocco this long to discover that stealing bases is a good strategic option with the increased base sizes and the limit on the number of pickoff attempts. Disgustingly Minnesotan (Mets Series Recap, 4/14-4/16)

4/17/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins take 2 of 3 against the New York Mets at Target Field. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in and the boys discuss the listless performance put forth by the Twins in game one, and then turnaround for the team in games 2 and 3. The Twins pitching staff still doesn't know how to throw to 1st base, and David aligns with Rocco in his feelings about Jorge Alcala. Hoges thinks Rocco should have a quicker hook when relievers are struggling, and David is confused why Vazquez is hitting with the bases loaded. David offers a crazy take about Carlos Correa and Hoges is furious with all of the soft tissue injuries plaguing the roster. The Last String Hasn't Been Cut Yet (Tigers Series Recap, 4/11-4/13)

4/14/2025
Send us a text For the fourth time this season, the Minnesota Twins lost a series, this time at home to the first-place Detroit Tigers. But they did salvage at least a win, in Game 3, showing that even a fourth-place team still wins once in a while. With David taking a Buxton-like scheduled off-day, Hoges fills in to talk about the team with Dan, and both have lots to say about manager Rocco Baldelli. They question his handling of basically the entire roster, from decisions on pinch-hitting and pinch-running to how long to let starters and relievers stay in the game. In the end, though, they are the least impressed with how little impact it seems (so far) the changes he instituted in spring training have made to a team that resembles the one that ended last season far more than the team that cruised into first place last summer. The Magnus Effect (Royals Series Recap, 4/7-4/10)

4/11/2025
Send us a text Despite some good pitching performances, the Minnesota Twins lost another series, this time three games out of four to the Kansas City Royals in Kansas City. David and Dan see plenty of culprits, mostly on the lineup card in the poor performances by Jose Miranda and Byron Buxton (whom both of them hope is able to tend to family matters while he is away). The lack of fundamentals in baserunning and fielding are concerning to David, while Dan thinks that Rocco Baldelli mishandled his trip to talk to home plate umpire Nic Lentz during Game 1 of this series. They discuss whether David Festa or Zebby Matthews will assume a more permanent role in the rotation in Pablo Lopez's absence, and they talk about whose spot on the roster Brooks Lee will take. A True Minnesota Moment (Astros Series Recap, 4/4-4/6)

4/7/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins played at Target Field for the first time this season and drop 2 of 3 to the Houston Astros. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson joins David in studio and the boys discuss the heartbreaking fashion in which the Twins lost game 3. David insists that Minnesota sports fans have a very different mindset than other teams' fans, and Hoges is still mad at Rocco for letting Bailey Ober make his first start of the season while clearly not 100%. The guys discuss how much longer Chris Paddack will have a role in this rotation, and find happiness in the little things as Jose Altuve struck out 5-times in the home opener. David and Hoges take a look around the league and the marvel that is the NL West, and make their picks for the upcoming Royals series. His Best Baseball Shape (White Sox Series Recap, 3/31-4/2)

4/3/2025
Send us a text While Game 1 wasn't pretty, the Minnesota Twins did finally get one win and then another one to take two of three against the Chicago White Sox, evening them up with the rest of the AL Central's teams at 2-4. So in that sense, it's a whole new ballgame for the final 156 this Major League Baseball season. David and Dan discuss the lows of Chris Paddack's start and then the highs of the games that followed, which featured improved outputs from Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa. David really likes how Rocco Baldelli is managing leadoff man Matt Wallner, while Dan struggles to justify keeping Paddack on the active roster should the veteran starter struggle again the next time through the rotation. Can't Blame the Children (Cardinals Series Recap, 3/28-3/30)

3/31/2025
Send us a text The 2025 season starts right about where the 2024 Minnesota Twins left off as they lose all three to the Cardinals in St. Louis. David and Dan assess what went wrong (lots) and highlight what went right (Willi Castro and Randy Dobnak). David was happy to see Rocco Baldelli move to steal some bases, while Dan thinks Rocco should have given Bailey Ober an earlier hook in Game 3 -- if he chose to start him at all. Dan also asks what role Eddy Julien has on this team, and David ponders whether this 0-3 start will get even worse against the Chicago White Sox this week. They also look around the league at the automatic strike zone challenge system data, a highlight for a former Twins player and a big day for the Yankees (new) bats. The Purest Pure Hitter on the Roster (2025 Minnesota Twins Season Preview)

3/26/2025
Send us a text The Major League Baseball season is officially here for the Minnesota Twins, and to kick it off David, Dan and Hoges offer their annual predictions for position players and pitchers. While there is some disagreement between them over the particulars, they all expect big things out of Matt Wallner and Carlos Correa. Whether they will be able to lead the team to the playoffs is something they agree on a good deal less. They discuss just how much the team will miss Royce Lewis as he recovers from an injury (ditto for Brooks Lee), and they share their takes on which starting pitcher will be the most (and least) effective this season. They also share their thoughts on the ownership sale that is slowly becoming a saga, and they look at the highs and lows of a schedule that looks easier at the start than it appears to be at the end. Moderate Isn't Mild (2025 Minnesota Twins Spring Training No. 4)

3/19/2025
Send us a text The big news for the Minnesota Twins this week was about Royce Lewis -- and it wasn't a great kind of news. David and Dan discuss the most recent injury suffered by the oft-injured third baseman, looking at the ripple that creates down the roster, possibly leaving room for an unheralded newcomer who can play catcher, first and second. They also walk through what injuries in the bullpen might do to that bunch, while also celebrating that for the first time in a couple of years the rotation looks really solid. David wanders into a discussion about Formula One racing, which makes Dan wonder how often we'll get to see Tommy Watkins on Camera Feed No. 10 at Target Field this season. We Have Guys That Can Do That (2025 Minnesota Twins Spring Training No. 3)

3/12/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins make their first round of cuts this spring and Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson joins David to talk through the current state of the roster. The guys discuss the potential of Matt Wallner batting lead off for the Twins, and Wallner's issues last season stemming from putting on too much muscle in the offseason. David wants to know who is going to play 2nd base for this team, and he begs Hoges to tell him there's a possibility that Buxton, Correa, and Lewis will all play in a good amount of games together this year. The boys discuss their level of optimism for the season, and discuss Baldelli's newly expressed love for llamas. David, Dan and Hoges discuss the latest news about the team, including the disappointing update about the sale of the team that has all three of them brainstorming billionaires. Maybe this is just another sign of the curse over Minnesota sports franchises. They also discuss the MLB's testing of the automatic balls and strikes system and then look around baseball at the biggest news from training camps: the Yankees' tearing down a decades-long tradition. Plenty of L's (2025 Minnesota Twins Spring Training No. 1)

2/16/2025
Send us a text The Minnesota Twins kickoff full squad workouts and David and Dan are hyped for the return of baseball. David thinks the bullpen is all but settled, while Dan believes there's wiggle room to be found for the likes of Louie Varland and Eiberson Castellano. The final two player-position roster spots seem to be up for grabs and the boys believe this will be a sink-or-swim season for resident Canadian Eddie Julien. The guys question the number of "best-shape of his life" guys being touted, and they continue their long-running disagreement regarding the merits of La La Land. Who Else is Out There? (Twins Pitchers and Catchers Report, 2025)

2/12/2025
Send us a text Spring training is nearly here, and just in time the Minnesota Twins finally made a trio of Major League signings. David and Dan discuss what the additions of Danny Coulombe, Harrison Bader and Ty France mean for this baseball season and how the Twins have made room for them on the roster. They also look at the new Twins broadcasting plans, which include some sensible rates in what were formerly blackout areas, as well as some new cameras at Target Field. They end by touching on an MLB betting scandal and then some better news from the Twins offseason. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! Send us a text Even though the Minnesota Twins have made very few moves this offseason and the movement on an ownership change has quieted of late, there is still plenty of intrigue around the team at the turn of the new year. David, Dan and Hoges revisit a number of topics, including the departure of a number of 2024 Twins players, the players who have signed across the league and the players who remain still on the roster heading into spring training.
